time for a new motor

Need some help/advice. In my 1998 F-150 4.6L with 170k miles I want to get 400rwhp out of it after a reuild. The only way to do it is with either a turbo or a supercharger. It'll be a daily driver.

I set a budget for around 6k +/- 1k.

I was planning on doing this when I am away at sea next winter.

I live in the Hampton Roads area in VA. Does anyone know/suggest someone to do the work?

Is this realistic or should I find a used 5.4 and go naturally aspirated?

pretty sure you're gonna have to get a 5.4 and supercharge or turbocharge it.

For 6 or 7K you could get a built block and a ported set of heads with cams.
Problem is,,,you still need a blower and the price of someone doing the work.
Cant do it on that budget!
You might be better of going with a low mile Lightning engine. Iv seen them on ebay and on NLOC for about your budget,,,still need installation price though.
Here's one that looks pretty good!

Ask around on some mustang forums if a 03 mustang GT blower will fit on your block and ask what it takes to their engines up to that number. I'm guessing that all you would need is the blower, true duals, LT headers, a good tune, gears, and cams. I'm sure that's way over budget now.

I don't see that happening unless you do some researching and piece together the forced induction system. You'd also have to install everything. Even then you'd still have get a built trans to handle the power which would set you way over budget.

Look up Mike Troyer at Troyer performance. Tell him what you got, what you want and he will suggest what can be done. He has a shop in Covington, VA.
