Help with blown plug Heli coil

Hi,\
I have a 2000 f150 that blew a plug the closest one to the firewall on the drivers side, and I have a friend who said he has fixed these b4 well we went and bought a sav-a-thread kit at the local auto parts store and tapped the hole and then when he was installing the new threads he couldnt see what he was doing and it went in to far, so now we need to figure out how to get the new threads back out any Ideas?

Thanks

When I did that, I used the spark plug to install the new heli coil and that caused it to go too far. Use the tap to install it instead. As for getting it out, I used a spiral easy out that fit snugly into the inside diameter of the insert. You can use one of the other ones in the kit to check the fit. I think the kit only comes with one of the smallest heli coils which is the one you need to use. May have to get another kit.

Thanks for the info BigBronc
Thats exaclty what happened I dont have an easy out but have checked almost every store here and cant find one big enough the 2 auto parts stores in this town were both sold out.
so what your saying is I need to use the smallest coil not the one that is the same size as the threads on the plug?

I think he means the shortest, not the smallest diameter.

Home Depot/ Plumbing section There not made by RIGID , your in the right section tho. Hanging on the wall, can't recall who makes them, but their in a Blue and Yellow pouch - assorted sizes. Think there's 5 extractors in total - Price is right , you'll need one of the two smaller ones in the bunch.

You can use the one the same size, I couldn't remember, just knew that only one came in my kit for some reason.
