7 quarts not quite enough?
Just for the record. I am the original owner of the 2005 King Ranch. Before leveling, 7 quarts and it was perfect on the dip stick. After leveling, 7 quarts and nothing. Everything else is stock. I have always run 7 but always wondered if that was correct. I hear a lot of rattling when I start this thing in the morning for about a second. That rattle makes me think about the oil level.
Thanks,

Well, just to add a little friendly debate, there could be other explanations for varying dipstick readings from one person to the next. One thing that comes to mind is that there is bound to be some variation in fill levels on bottles of oil. Of course the packaging plant will have QA/QC on their fill procedures, but there will be tolerances, i.e each bottle contains 1.0 quart +/- 0.1 qts or something like that. If you use 6 bottles that are missing 0.1 qts each, well you're down 0.6 quarts from the get-go. That might be an extreme example, but you get the idea.
I have also noticed that I get a tiny but noticable difference on the dipstick if I use a 5-qt jug (plus a quart of course) instead of 6 individual quarts. Sometimes I use one, sometimes the other, depending on what is available at Wally world (MC 5/20 synblend)
I think there also has to be a larger tolerance for overfill in the crankcases than some folks are claiming. I don't think overfilling by 0.5 quarts will interfere with the crankshaft or cause oil foaming under normal circumstances. If there was that little clearance between the crank and the oil level in the pan, we would be splashing and foaming the oil every time we climbed or descended a grade, and if you're in the mountains, you could be climbing or descending for miles at a time.
Just some food for thought...flame retardant suit is now on

I agree.
Mobil 1 syn oil and mobil filter
OK, I just checked and it was fine after long drive. I will check in th AM before I start and compare. BTW, I love the truck and this is not my first one. Now if I could only get the power sliding rear window on more than just holidays. Can anyone point me in the right direction? My 4x4 also seems to work 60% of the time.

They do have them tho, I got a 5four stick & tube on the shelf. I'll look when I go out there. Should just change it , the engine has a 4six tube and stick in it (way to short). My old one rusted out, all I had handy at the time was a 4.6L tube and stick.
