Let's use 0w-30 full syn for example. At startup it has viscocity of around 40 at 75 degrees F. When hot and running it has a viscocity of around 10 at 212 degrees F. Now 10w-30 dino oil has a viscocity of 100 at 75 degrees F. At 212 degrees F it has a viscocity of around 10 just like the full syn. The main difference is the viscocity at 75 degrees F for startup. The engine wants a viscocity of around 10 all the time. If it got that viscocity all the time engines would last forever, but due to the oil thickening up when it cools down the engine must startup with a less desirable viscocity. 0w-20 and 30 have the lowest startup viscocity on the market today with a desirable engine temp viscocity as well.
If this is the case then why does Ford recommend 5W20 and not 0W20 for their trucks?

Red4x4, I don't know from what part of space you are pulling your numbers from but do yourself a favor and quit posting them. There are a lot of professional folks here that are laughing at the posts. You make absolutely no sense at all. And just so you know, the W, as in 0w-30, doesn't stand for weight. Oil does have a specific gravity but it does not have a weight. You might also want to research SAE, Saybolt, and Kinematic. Then you'll understand just how ridiculous your posts are. I'm also not trying to flame you. At my age, it's real easy for me to do and trust me, if I were flaming you, you'd know it. If you have the interest in motor oil, take some tribology classes and if you want the info as to where to get this education, I have several good places for you.

Okay where can I go to learn about oil more online? I've never had anyone argue with the numbers I've posted ever. Regardless show me some good places to learn from. I'm always up for learning more if I am in fact incorrect. Thanks.

I get Amsoil CHEAP (friend is a dealer). I am sticking with Motorcraft 5w20 blend and a motorcrat filter so far

Other fluids I may go amsoil. Haven't decided yet. Then again, I just did my 5K mile oil change. Yes the filter is a bear. I used an oil filter wrench with a handle that pivots and attacked it from the top. Took some elbow grease and a lot of readjusting being able to only get a minimal turn (1/8th maybe) each time. Once it broke free I cracked a beer

Red4x4, good man! Give me about 30 minutes and check your private messages. There will be a few to get you started.

Well, that didn't work. It says you either don't accept PMs or you're not eligible to receive PMs. I've never run into that one before. Tell me how you want to do this. I have a bunch of info for you to take a look at and research.
To get you started here's a link to an oil related dictionary:
http://www.noria.com/dictionary/
Find SAE, Saybolt, Kinematic, and ISO grades. Find API and ACEA and research the requirements for each. Research the new GF-5 and why they are needed. I've got a ton more for you just not sure how to do it without tying up a bunch of bandwidth for the website.

amazon.com has it for $84.91 per case. That makes each quart about $7.08.

This little toy works wonders. Slip it on the end of the filter, then get a big 3/8 breaker bar.

Dealer job for Warranty .. Let them feed you Coffee and do the First Service.

They reset my service light and Repaired a Puncture for me for penny's.

Not letting the dealer do the first service on a 50k truck is stupid. Dealer service stamps must mean Nothing in North America. What about FFSH? ... Full Ford Service History

P.S throw a few bucks in the ashtray ... See If they have Honest people working for them ...

I saw that, total with shipping was $104, which is about $8.60 a quart. Its more fun to buy it at the dealer and see their face when you buy $8 a quart oil, most of them actually try to talk you out of it for some reason.

Yeah I've already ran into the pm problem. This site has a stupid rule that one has to be a member for 90 days and have 100 posts til they can pm. Email me at redfourxfour@hotmail.com if you don't mind man. Thanks.

RED4X4- Glad to see that you do really want to learn. I've been around (on this planet) long enough to know Labnerd DOES know what he's talking about. I read way to much BS on the forums and it gets perpetuated . It's refreshing to know there are a number on the forum that WILL NOT lead you up a blind alley but will give you the straight stuff. If you really care about yourself and truly want to learn, good for you. Some don't want to and would rather believe misinformation.... I guess I would say they have what they wanted and deserve. Good Luck to you in the quest for information "that you can take to the bank"
