ok is it carb, what motor, good fuel pressure or low, it is getting spark? little more detail, from what you gave us id say no spark, low fuel pressure, bad distributor, clogged ports in carb or fuel injector, blown fuse, fryed wire, bad fuel pump, cap or rotor old, it will always deal with the fuel, air, spark, or electrical pick one and start there

Check the fuel pressure with a gauge. if its sparking that leave the fuel. Or next I would check the timing. Timing chain might be bad.

jethat has a good point to easy way to do that pull the cap off the distributor and if the rotor spins its good is not its either bad chain or bad distributor. let me know what happens

The chain most likely did not break so the cap will spin. you wouldn't get spark if it didnt rotate. could have jumped though. Youll want to put the engine at #1 and make sure the the dist is pointing at the #1 plug
