busted heater core
busted heater core
My heater core is busted and i don't have the money to fix it right now... i was talkin to a buddy of mine and he said i could cut the hose that goes into the heater and just plug it in to the one beside it is this true and anyone know exactly what two hoses?
Yea, exactly what Matts ford said, I made that mistake with my wife's Expy AND CUT THE HOSES,,,big mistake....When I had it replaced they had to relplace the whole hose assembly and not the individual hoses that I cut..It all comes as an asembled piece...
Its a 2000 with a 4.6

There are two hoses that attach to the fittings at the end of the heater core. You can locate them coming out of the firewall above the cam cover on the passenger side. Have your friend follow them to where they enter the engine and remove them there. Then a run a length of hose to both ends at the engine. This will effectively bypass the heater core and save the factory hoses from being destroyed. On my truck I have long replaced the expensive heater core hoses with regular hose and used screw clamps. They are a bear to slide over the heater core pipes but it can be done. If you go this route be sure to remove the restrictor from the factory hose and slide it into the replacement hose.
I cut both hoses on my Expy to soak and flush the core... My secret was to go to Auto store and get 2 Prestone flush hose kits about $5 each
Each kit includes one T connector (several sizes in the kit) and a pair of hose clamps. Each T connector has a garden hose connection that you screw a cap on when you are done! Buy two of them, and it will not only solve your problem now, but will also make changing the core easier
Now changing the heater core.. that is another story
