I run PP 5W20 during the winter. Why? Because up here in Canada especialy in the praire provinces temps get really friggin low...with wind chill we are in the -30 to -40's celcius and the syn helps with initial start-ups. the added benifet to running syn for me is I don't have to change the oil until spring since syns can go the extra miles compared to dinos. In the summers I go with whatever 5w20 or 30 is on sale...dino, semi, or full syn.

Oil studies have shown that the expensive Amsoil. Royal purple and what have you are not much better than Mobil 1 and a Motorcraft filter. You can get both of those at Walmart, whereas you have to contact a dealer in your area to get the Amsoil and Royal Purple. I run Mobil 1 in all of my vehicles.

Actually, soon as it gets that cold little things like intermediate wipers don't work. And my rancho shocks might as well be solid metal bars the ride is so rough....along with a couple of snapped swaybar links.

Our trucks do not call for 10-W30...

You don't need to locate a dealer to get Amsoil either. I have been ordering it on the internet for years. I just converted from the Bowtie crowd, now the proud owner of a F 150 Lariat SCrew. I have a free oil change from the dealer left. Once thats gone, I'm going to put Amsoil in this. The oil studies would be interesting, of course all adversisements for any oil products including filters are only going to show whatever testing makes their product look the best. I ran amsoil before because of results my dad got in his 4 trucks and hay moving equipment. Not at all an "oil study" but the results were astonishing anyway.

I would like to see those same studies. As far as the Royal Purple cost's.
It cost me a $1.30 more a quart or $9.10 more per oil change over Mobil 1. Worth it to me. I am not knocking Mobil 1. I just liked all the info and studies that I found on Royal Purple. (I googled all the sites and info)
I'm glad I seen this thread and the one I started on oil filters because it reminded me to check my oil. After 3200 miles, I am down 1/2 a quart from my last oil change. I havn't checked it in the last 1000 miles. Glad I did, I will put the 1/2 quart in today. I was fortunate that my local NAPA had 3 qts left, I took all 3. I have the same oil running in my Daughters Jeep. I need to get her home so I can check her oil level out. She doesn't usually require any between oil changes. (5000 miles).
The Royal Purple website has some good info and studies, and yes I kept an open mind when reading them. What made my final decision was running into a NAPA Sales Rep while on vacation last year, he made a convincing case for RP.

Go to your owner's manual or look under the hood. They do not call for 10-w30. The advised, per ford is 5-w20 and 0-w20 synthetic is the same.

Your answers are as close to you as your truck is, my friend!
