error code, please help

Hi, I have a 98 f150 137,00 miles 4.6L, ext cab, so I think (with the third door), and well I was driving 8 hours and about 7 hours into the trip my check engine light comes on, and the code is P1151 on my scan guage II and thats the only code. I did a search on here, but usually there is more then just one code. So what does this code mean? What can I do to fix it? Or attempt to fix it?

Thanks,
James

Probably time for a new upstream sensor on the driver's side. Sounds like it's getting sluggish/lazy.

Many will suggest replacing both upstreams at the same time (I don't).

Reset the PCM after repair and retest.

I'm new to vacuum leaks or whatever, but I feel stupid asking this, what is an upstream sensor? And what about the pvc elbow? I've seen people talking about that, can that be it? if so where is it located?

From my Equus Scanner library.

P1151 = Bank 2 (drivers side) Sensor 1 , "Sensor indicates lean"

I agree, You don't have to replace both bank's as some will suggest.

A few months ago, my Mom's Jeep popped this code or one just like it and I have a buddy who works for the local Chyrsler / Jeep dealership and they have instructions from Chrysler to replace both upstream O2's when a vehicle comes in with this problem. He told me to just change the one O2 and hope the other didn't need replacing. It hasn't had a problem since I changed just the one that kicked the code.

I have replaced a few. What I do,
(1) Engine cold, spray alot of PB Blaster at the O2 Bung/ Sensor threads. let it sit 20-30 mins. (I usually spray alot at the threads the night before and let it sit but the above will work)
(2) Run Engine to hot, Respray, PB Blaster at O2 Bung / Sensor threads. Let it sit a couple of mins. Then turn the truck off and try to remove the the O2 Sensor.
(3)Repeat if you need to.

Honestly, I have never had a problem taking them out using this proceedure and I use an open end wrench. I do not own an O2 Sensor socket (yet) because there hasn't been a need for one.

Good luck with it.

Well i replaced the PCV value, and so far so good. I took off the check engine light and probbly drove for about 30 mins, and it didn't come back on yet. So I'm hoping this is the problem.

There are 4. 2 on each side, one before the converter and one after. Don't worry about the ones after the converter unless you have to pass a OBD2 emissions test. They are in the $55 each ballpark from Rock Auto for OEM Motorcraft.

Insufficient amount of driving. Report back if it's been a week or two of daily usage.
