Where can I pull ABS codes for free?

I'm looking for a place with a scanner that will pull ABS codes for free because I've got an ABS code that randomly comes and goes. The only place I know of is Pep Boys, but the two I've been to don't have the right keys for the scanner to read ABS codes from my truck. The dealership wants $80 just to read the damn codes.

Also, I've been told that the scanners that can actually do this can't read the codes if the light isn't on. My ABS light comes on pretty random (although I think it might come on more frequently when the brakes are wet). Is there any way these computers on these trucks log the codes so I can go back and see what was giving me the problem? It's hard to time it so that the light comes on when I get codes pulled, and it seems more like it comes on when I have no time to pull the codes, but won't come on when I am able to.

autozone will read for free. but you'll have to find out if yours has the key for it. some private shops will read them for free. i didnt think there was a special key for the 2001.

Autozone, Discount, etc. all have those cheap orange scanners that only read engine codes. Pep Boys is the only one I've heard that will read anything other than the engine codes.

I dunno about 'Free' but many shops can pull an ABS code. Our scanner at work pulls them if a code is stored.

I would check the brake fluid first off. ABS light can come on randomly depending on the terrain you are on. If it does it while you drive down the street it could be a faulty wheel speed sensor.

Cost me 45 to have code pulled. All the free places did not have an ABS capable scanner.
