Block heater

The 5.4 I bought does not have an engine block heater. I do not want to re-use the one that was on the 4.6, it was weak and barely kept the engine from freezing, so I would like a more powerful one. Any suggestions on where to buy from?

I've always liked the circulating type heater over the freeze plug heaters. They tee into the heater hoses.

You should be able to get a circulating one from pretty much any auto place. The block one I bought was around $25. I agree the circulating one is probably a better buy, especially if the truck doesn't have one to begin with. I don't think it could be much more than $40. check www.summitracing.com

Huh, never had or needed one of those, but it's never outside for long in the winter either. Well , unless we get a bunch of the white stuff

I know it isn't the best for it, but my truck starts reliably @ -30c with out being plugged in. I think it was the year before last, but in Winnipeg we had 32 or 33 days of solid temps below -25c, that sucked!

Yeah my truck starts real well when it is in those -30 degree days without being plugged in. I have a 1200 amp battery, 1000 CCA, its a beast of battery. I wouldn't plug it in above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and thats what it says in the manual as well. If you are gung hoe on having a block heater look into the ones that go on the bottom of the oil pan, they work AMAZING and only about 2 mm thick.
