fixed the engine tonight...how should it help?

So when i bought the truck...it had the check engine light on...we had asked them what it was for and they said being that it was a crate engine that it has been on since they put it in...everything seemed to work fine so we just accepted that as an aswer. Well today i was bored so i decided to head up to autozone and had them run the check on it. They said that my 3rd cylinder was mis-firing. so i brought it home and took out the 3rd spark plug and cleaned it up. put it back in and the truck ran like it was brand new! it was like the difference between night and day. Now I have a question...obviously it has helped my power in the truck because i can feel that, but i was wondering how it will affect my gas mileage...little to none or a big difference?

also, while i was in there, i noticed that when i pulled out my wrench, it was dirty and the spark plug was a little dirty (like there was dirt on it...not just engine dirty ) ...will this affect performance at all? how would i clean inside of it?

Let me know what yall think. Thanks

It sounds like the infamous heater hose leak. I believe the #3 is right below where it leaks and causes a misfire. Was it moist or wet from coolant at all? I don't think it would have to be, because the coolant would dry up as it leaked down on the plug, but would contaminate and cause dirt and a misfire in the process. Feel the hose right above the plug when it's warmed up good and see if you feel any moisture.

i didnt feel any coolant but i didnt even think about that...i just figured it was dirty from going off roading...but i will definatly check it out and see if thats causing it. it still ran fine this morning

also how do i clear the code to turn off the check engine light? i have heard something like after 50 miles it will go away but...my odometer doesnt work...so will this affect it and keep the check engine light on forever?

Disconnect the battery for 15 minutes. If the light is still on, then you still have codes, read them again.
