4 of the final 6 engines were Fords. 3 of them were Cleveland based. Jon Kaase won it with a 400 Ford dispelling the idea that 400 fords are dogs..
Cleveland Based engines have dominated the EMC since they started it about 5 years ago every year. The Cleveland is not only Fords best engine but the best engine of the muscle car era period..

you can get a hell lot of power out of the 351 cleveland. my dads old 79 f250 4x4 had a built 351 cleveland with 36" mud terrains. that truck was a 6300lbs 13.5 second 1/4 mile truck. and still gave him 13mpg as long as he stayed out of the throttle.

 

What size were all the engines? Ford 351's, Chevy 350's?

 

I think this year larger displacement engines are in. I just read on another board 3 of them were 335 Ford engine family engines. I think the other was a 429 ford and the remaining 2 were big block chevys. They dont have much information on the site yet.

 

Oh, big block Chevy's really aren't as reliable as the classic 350 small-block. Were they scoring on reliability or performance?

 

The EMC is all about dyno performance. most performance engines occasionally break.
