high rev on startup

I recently installed a new fan clutch so i dont know if thats why its happening or not but, it seems like after i installed the new clutch, every time i start up, the motor revs up real high to like 2500 rpm then slowly goes back down to 500-600 rpms.....I didnt really notice it doing this before the new clutch but like i said i could be wrong so im not really suspecting its the new clutch.....Anyone got any ideas on what could be causing this high rev? I cleaned tb and maf recently also....2001 5.4 4x2...

Do you mean slowly as in say 5 seconds? Or more like 30 seconds?

Well i dont really know how many seconds but its defiantly not 30 but it really never did this before. Its like im holding down the gas pedal as i start it.....Then it revs up to about 2500, then down to about 1500 then 1000 etc....all the way down to normal idle...

Kinda normal. . . Mine goes sky high as well. it kinda sucks pulling out of the womans house @ 2 am trying to be quiet, even if I drop it into gear ASAP it stays up there for a split second or two. . . Get a video of it on a ice cold start-up. . .

Usually it'll only do this on a cold start. When it's warm try shutting it off for a little, not enough time to let it cool though, then turn it back on. Same result?

My 02 does this and so does my FIL's 01. Also My 89 done it as well. My neighbors 05 does it so I think it is a ford thing. Every ford that I have ever owned has done it.

Might be your new fan is louder so your noticing it. 2500 rpm is high though. Mine starts at about 1200 and goes down. Could be your IAC needs cleaned up

Mine starts at about 1500 and slowly comes down, and yes, the fan roars.
