Hard start

For a week now my 2004 f-150 5.4 is giving me problems with starting, first started last week it took two or three cranks before it started now it takes about 30 seconds while cranking befroe it starts, I have had a mechanic look at and he has mention it maybe the fuel pump, before i go out and change it, has anyone out had this problem and if so what was the fix?

thank u

You did replace the filter? A clogged filter is likely the cause..

Could either be the fuel filter or the fuel pump. What you need to do is check the fuel pressure and then fuel pressure drop when you turn the engine off. What your testing is the drain back valve on the fuel pump. If defective all the fuel will drain out of the line causing a hard start. Cheap and easy fix would be fuel filter but I would say most likely fuel pump.

Does the truck seem sluggish or low on power at all?
