Sulfamic Acid
Sulfamic Acid
Found some powder sulfamic acid, was wondering how brutal it is on copper/ alum and plastic. my probe has a lot of built up scale in the water jackets and i need to get rid of it.
i cant find much info on it other than its possible it may cause problems over time (unknown length of time)
we use this to treat our boiler-refrigeration at work, i talked to the boiler guy and he said it only takes 1 mil of scale build up to reduce cooling effeciency by up to 60%.

I wouldn't use it or expect a series of issues like aluminum radiator leaks and excess voltage in the system. It's hard on the copper parts and seals as well. I would suggest looking at this product:

This one is amino acid based and it offers several series of benefits that make it worth using as a permanent coolant additive. I'd suggest putting a bottle in the radiator system, driving it about 3000 miles, drain, flush and refill with coolant and another bottle so that the issue doesn't come back.

so it is hard on rubber too? me and the boiler guy couldnt figure out if it was hard on anything else but copper... the reason i was looking at it was because i have an excessive amount of buildup. i should give you a picture, i need something that works relatively quickly.
what about coca cola?

Judging by the rust on those walls, you have bigger problems to worry about than the buildup.
What is your original problem? If you weren't having overheating issues before, i'd just let it be.

Maybe I'm not seeing everything in the pic but I don't see that you have that big of an issue. I've seen far worse and cooling wasn't an issue. If you have the block out and apart, get it tanked and your problems are over not to mention a nice clean block to work on and paint. I think your friends 1mm of scale= 60% loss is a little ambitious at best.
1mm scale in an industrial setting, we work with large boiler and refrigeration systems at the plant.
the pics dont do much justice, there was plenty of scale down lower.
im just trying to salvage the motor for the time being until i can get money back for another via another supplier or something to that effect.
