I have an 02 F150 and its nearly imposible to get to the rear 2 spark plugs to change them without taking off the fuel rails, and when chaging the oil it was nearly impossible to get the old oil filter out and put the new one back in due to the power steering arm. Why did Ford do this? Or am I just an IDIOT

 

Turn your wheel before parking it to move the arm out of the way. I forget this one myself and usually remember after I have drained the oil.

 

I think sometimes that they do it on purpose to discourage back yard mechanics from working on their own vehicles.

 

oil filter - remove front skidplate, sometimes thats easier for me.

rear plugs, i just shove my hands in there lol

Never had to remove fuel rails to get to spark plugs! I don't think much thought goes into the maintenance process with American manufacturers. Nothing personal, just design flaws.

 

Yer truck is too new.

It takes like 30 seconds to move the fuel rail... So why not move it??

 

is it that easy? a mechanic told me they were hard as hell, i know mechanics are full of it but i didnt they would try to rip me off and tell me 50 bucks per plug to replace them

 

I wanna say it is two 10mm bolts and the fuel rail just pops up. Fuel injectors included.

 

It's VERY easy. I wouldn't want to attempt changing #4 & #8 with the fuel- rail in the way. Actually, I did once!!! That didn't last long, pulled the rail.
Some ppl on here work with it in place. I do not have the patience or small enough hands to be fighting with those 2 plugs. Removing the rail makes it alot easier to get to #3 & #7 as well.

I got my new Motorcraft plugs and Global COP's last week. I will be installing them next week and the fuel rails will be coming off 1st.

Please tell me you are using Motorcraft plugs !!!!!
I put Autolite's in last November. 4800 miles later, I'm regreting it. I wish I was a member of this site when I bought the truck, the Autolites would not have gone in. Truck is running sluggish and my MPG's have gone down a bit.
