Gen 3 injectors in an 02 5.4?

Hello all;

Can I safely install GEN 3 injectors in my 02 5.4?

If yes, can these injectors come from any similar year model 5.4? Is there a version that is more desirable than others? I have read that these could improve performance and possibly mileage.

What are my current stock injectors rated for, in regards to lbs (19 lbs, 24 lbs ect.)?

I have a troyer tuned Xcal2, would there be any advantage to going to a higher rated injector without destroying my current mileage (12-18mpg depending on my mood)?

thank you in advance for your input.

Your stock injectors are 19#
And you will get no benefit from running a bigger rated injector.

I don't know about the gen 3 injectors but stick with the 19# injectors if you think there might be some benefit to the newer style injectors.
I don't know,,,but I'm having a hard time believing they would be worth swapping myself.
But there are some guys trying it.

Phil

I have read that the GEN3 injectors have 4 dispersion holes that better distribute the fuel. This is supposed to aid in combustion.

It sounds logical!

If your referring to Bosch Type 3's @ 19 lbs. Yea they work well , upgraded spray pattern. A few others and I have upgraded to these here.

I put the new new style 24lbs Ford racing injectors in my 02 F150 5.4, and it runs really good. Had to get the parameters for the swap tuned for my Xcal-3....no gains in power whatsoever but supposedly these have a more accurate spray compared to stock 19lbs'ers so there might be a slight mpg gain. Ford wanted mucho $$$ for stock compared to want Steeda wanted for the 24's hence the reason I went this route....they are also gray in color compared to the traditional blue.

HP = Injector Rating x # of Cylinders / BSFC x Duty Cycle is the formula.

If your below 280 FWHP , your alright - but stepping up to 300 would deem 19's unreliable.

If you plan on future mods putting you close to 300 , i would go thru a Dyno tune incorporating the 24's - if not the 19's are fine. I didn't see a mileage increase after my type threes were installed. A slightly improved idle is all - always @720 RPM and very steady.

EDIT - Here's a calc -
