Z-Max yes or no
i have heard some good things about Z-Max engine treatment, just wondering if any body has tried it and does it work like on the infomercial. was thinking of trying it when i change the oil in my pickup this weekend
idk about z max, but i dont think you can beat lucas
walmart, any parts store really, if you take your truck to a oil changin place they usually keep some there, i know we do, if you change your own, then parts store and definantly walmart, cuz ive read the lucas bottles there lol

k man when you drain the oil, plug it back up, put in the engine where you put the oil in, and its a quart, so however much oil your truck takes minus that a quart, so if it takes 6 qts, put that lucas in and 5 qts of oil
I disagree. ZMAX also manufactures AVBLEND for aircraft. Evan though the formula is allttle differant than ZMAX due to aircraft engines being air cooled. The FAA would not allow this to be used in aircraft if it was snake oil. I used ZMAX in my 95 Explorer and I had over 250000 miles with no issues engine or tranny. I just sold it at the first of the year.
I dont understand the use of LUCAS. Everyone is so picky on the weight of oil they put in their engine so lets add something that changes it and makes it thicker.
PS AVBLEND works great in aircraft.

Z-Max is a chlorinated napthalene. These clorinated napthalenes are EXTREMELY corrosive. During the combustion process, some of the oil, including the Z-Max, is burned. The Z-Max is converted to hydrochloric acid. Wanna screw up your engine? Just follow the directions on the bottle.
Lucas Oil Treatment is nothing more than a viscosity enhancer. Kinda like the old STP. If you NEED a thicker oil, use one instead of this stuff. Remember the days of the 10w-40 oils and the incredible sludge? Wanna be reminded of it? Follow the directions on the bottle.
There are few, as in I'm only aware of of two types, of the oil additives that have any benefit at all. The rest are not worth the money you put out for it. Ford specifically states in every owners manual, do not use any oil additives. They designed, tested, and made your Ford product. I wonder just what they know that the folks that recommend these products know differently. Have you ever wondered just how many engines has Lucas designed, tested and made? How many engines have any of the additive makers designed, tested, and made? Now, why on earth would you believe somebody knows better what is best for your engine than the folks that made it? Folks, it's in your owners manual. Please read it. You might just learn something knowledgeable instead of internet chat.

i agree with labnerd. adding things to your oil is scary when i think about it.
think of passages that may have build and one of these additives loosens some of that. now you have a piece of crap trying to find something new to block.

If it was so bad then I should not have over 250000 miles on a 95 X and the FAA should ground all aircraft using AVBLEND. Could it possibly be just BAD maintenance. Because I know everyone does exactly what is required. NOT
It may not hurt your vehicle crash. But your logic is flawed. After all, I had 280,000 on my 1985 ranger when I sold it. It never saw an oil additive and I used fram oil filters it's whole life..That right there is a testement. Point is, why spend money on something that won't work, and could cause problems (corrosion)?
