351 motor swap

i recieved a 351c or w im not sure, the guy also said it was actually a 351 modified 400. it was free and came out of a 86 bronco 4wd. only thing wrong when he parked it was a burned valve. its been sittin for about 5 years. it has a holley 4 barrel carb. so my ? is how hard would it be to put that in my 97 f150 with a 5.4? whats all involved and if i keep that motor pretty much all stock what kind a gas milage would i get. just lookin at options here so any advice would be great

well, a user on here did a v10 motor swap in his f150 of this style, so im sure that 351 will fit, and its more than likely a 351w, and im not sure about the gas milage, but its not gonna be to good, the 5.4 is 330 cubic inches, so its gonna be worse than the 5.4 you have now and motor swaps arent easy but good luck

its not the same thing at all.

that 351 will be a total pain to install and you will have to completely get rid of your cluster as it will no longer work so every guage on there will have to be redone.

sell the engine and put the money towards something else.

I agree, sell the motor for about $500 and buy yourself a programmer.

Well anything can be made to fit so the answer is yes. If you keep it stock you will get worse mileage than the 5.4. If you modify it you will get worse mileage than the 5.4. You will need a tranny with the proper bolt pattern. Once you figure out the mounting points in the engine bay and fab a tranny cross member/mount the rest is easy. FWIW a kick in the but is free but it is just as useless. Sell the engine and put it towards improving the 5.4.

yea i was just brainstorming, i forgot to mention that i also got the tranny and transer case w/motor all for free, i already have a gyphoon just waitin on custom tunes, about how much is a rebuild for a 5.4 if i do it myself, thinkin about doin what neal the hp freak did to his make it more effiecent by making everything flow better along with more hp when i want it, i need to do a p.i. head swap. say if i replace that valve in that motor and just getting it running again bout how much could sell it for with trans and transfer case?

you could swap all that stuff to a wrecking yard for a complete PI 5.4, and then depending on the quality of parts you want and how much power you want from the rebuildn how much yu will spend...

or you could just port and polish the non PI heads and intake manifold they sell cams for the non pi engines and then you'd be fine with some higher compression pistons
