E-Fan Question??

I've read a few threads that states e-fans are a easy power adder I am aware of this but what e-fan is everyone recommeding? And how much do they run and are they worth it? My last question is will it void my warrenty if I swap out the fan clutch with a E-Fan?? Thanks

Ken

if you buy a kit online there pretty pricey but at my local junk yard it was only 30 bucks for any E-fan *dual or single* set up you could find. then Autozone has that temp switch thing that kicks them on by them self. or you could just do a simple switch..*batt, fuse,switch,E-fans.* Im not 100% sure but i think doing this does void the warrenty... im sure someone else one here will know.

I installed the Troyer E-fan kit. It makes a very slight improvement in power/MPG, but it is way easier to change the oil filter now since that big (and sharp edged) fan is no longer in the way.

If you get the Troyer kit, cut out his plastic 30 AMP fuses and splice in the all metal 30/40 amp pieces (you can get them from any autoparts store - and they work great). Otherwise, your fuses will melt after a while (all 4 of mine did).

you can make your own kit for alot cheaper then the built kits.

also as far as your warranty, only pieces dirrectly affected by the modded parts would no longer be covered.

Even then, the warranty issue is not that simple. "Is my warranty voided" is a pretty vauge, far fetching term. If your ABS goes bad after installing the fans, yes, your ABS is still covered under warranty.

If you melt a piston because the engine overheated because the fans never turned on, yes, your warranty on the engine is void and you are SOL. Even then, they (the dealership representing FoMoCo) would have to resonably proove that the fans not turning on was exactly the reason the overheat occured. My point is, they can't just look at your truck and go "yep...he removed the stock fan, lets void his warranty!!" It's more involved than that. But yea, you are reasonably safe with this mod...I'd do it under warranty.

Which e-fan is most suitable depends on MANY things........ie space available, how much CFM you need, the capacity of your charging system, and much more.

Cost for the e-fan will be anywhere from 10 bucks to a few hundred bucks. You will also need wiring and other items needed to do the installation. These itemsmay or may not come with the fan.

Worth it? Depends on your situation. If you are doing this for the HP gain alone then I would say no, not worth it. If there are other reasons for the conversion such as space issues, accessory belt issus etc. then it is well worth it because there is no other choice.

I also have the Troyer Performance kit. I recommend it. My mechanic was impressed by the quality of it.
