New engine drop suggestions

To get started my names kyle, i am a new user. Just trying to get more twist in at tires so i am desperate for suggestions as to what is the strongest engine i can drop into a 1999 f 150 4.6 liter 4x4 with a 4r70 transmission. Right now it has ud pully kit, 9mm ford racing wires, 180 thermostat gatorbelt tb spacer (worthless) on stock 60mm tb, and custom true cold air intake with true dual exhaust. The only two other things i can think of with my low amount of knowledge is headers and a tune but thats still not going to be enough. I want the most i can without a supercharger. I plan to make this a project and it wont be driven in the winter, therefore my first question is, should i remove my 4x t-case for less weight and is that a good idea? And also i have read at http://www.fordf150.net/specs/engines.php that in 1999 they only made 1 4.6 liter with 220 horse, and starting in 2000 they made two, one with 260 horse and the other still at 220 both with the same exact displacement but but the compression ration on the 260 is 9 and the 220 is 9.4. What was this power gain due to, SOHC vs DOHC? How am i supposed to tell what engine it is and will it bolt up to the 4r70 auto? In that case does anyone have any suggestions as to what engine i can/should drop into my f150 for maximum performance and best mods and upgrades available. I don't know where else to go for help and suggestions to get some power and i'm willing to work my *** off to get it! So anything any

Do a PI head swap with a set of cams and get a stall converter and get the trans stuffed with good parts. The higher HP and TQ was due to the PI heads and intake, with tuning and good cams you can gain 100rwhp.

I'm having mine ported by the guy who builds our drag engines, but check out Livernois motorsport. I'm going all forged rotating assembly and stroker crank, you can do this as well and up the compression and make somewhere near 350hp all motor. As for cams, I'm going with Crower, but Comp also has great Modular cams. I'm a factory Ford tech, the modulars are very tricky to build and require special tools, it's best to let a professional handle the head/cam swap.

If you can afford it and want the most power without a turbo, supercharger, nitrous, etc. Get a new engine put together. You can spend up to $6000 on it, or less than $2000 its up to you. I'm looking at about $4500 in block and balanced rotating assembly built for 1000hp, I'll have roughly $1000 in heads and another $800 in cams and springs. Just to get everything ready for the turbo. You can go alot cheaper though. What do you want out of your truck is the question?

im looking for 300 horse plus in the cheapest way, all possible working mods and such. But i'm saying find a used engine with low miles or a rebuilt engine. What could i do with it. And with the 5.4, i heard the transmission bushings are different, but it as an easy replacement. What my plans are is, i have 1500 bucks now that i like to drop into a different engine that would be on a stand in my garage while the old motor gets me around. So i can gradually build. But as well as modding up the 4.6 seems worthless now unless you know some good universal mods. Also with the 5.4, what are those boxes above the plugs, whats the difference and how do they work?

A brand new 4.6L cast block is $400 from FRPP, and then get a rotating assembly and so on.
