Summer time=bad running truck

Ok I have a 2004 4x4 XL 5.4, I've had this truck for little over 2 yrs. The first thing I noticed about this truck is that it runs likes crap in the summer time. The problem I'm having is when i'm running for a few hours in the hottest part of the day, the truck runs fine. But when I shut the engine off and start it back up I'm having a very rough idle, sometimes it even stahls and dies??? The truck has 108,000 miles on it. This is really starting to get annoying. But what I don't understand, is it don't do this all the time. Also when first starting it, it rattles horribly. Just needed some opinions on what could be causing this. I've heard anything from a bad oxygen sensor to a fouled plug. Thanks.

holy crap dude this is a new one on me...usually i can give some kind of idea to people with their problems..but this i dont have a clue..dont think the 02 sensor would be the problem but who knows and the plugs, it just could be the plugs, have you changed them usually people change the plugs at about 80-90 thousand miles even tho they have 100 thousand mile plugs time to change plugs and coil packs thats about all i can come up with a good ole fashion tune up

Well the dealer that I bought the truck from claimed it had new plugs in it. But I guess you can't trust anybody. I just hate to pay $400 for a tune up when it don't need it. But I may have to go that route. What would ya do?

WHOA!!! NO!!! dont pay $400 bucks!!! just change the plugs urself (assuming you know how ) and see where you are then more than likely plugs are bad, may change COP's might wanna do an injection cleaner and some techron in the gas tank to clean the lines, injectors, and clean the ole engine out

Already done the cleaners and only use Cheveron gas. I do know how to change the plugs, but for the fear of breaking them off in the heads(infamous for the '04's) is whats keeping me from doing it myself. What does Ford do for a tune-up? Besides the plugs, what else do they do?

dont know...i WILL NOT take my truck to ford ever again not here neways their a bunch of idiots i had a small problem with my tranny and they said the only thing to do was get a new tranny took it to a tranny dude and he fixed me right up for 350 bucks instead of 2500 neways they were wantin to charge me 750 for a tune up and i said screw that..im gonna buy a K&N air filter, can change my own fuel filter and plugs and i know those 3 things is included in their tune up..not sure if they change coil packs (think for 750 they should) but to me tune ups are a waste who cant change their air filter, plugs arent to hard to change (i wouldnt worry to much about breakin the plugs off) and fuel filter is like 30 bucks to change if you take it to a oil change place, i can do them cuz i work at one and do them everyday!!! not many people have the tools to take them off

Wow! $750.00 for a tuneup?? Thats insane, down here its $350.00 to $400.00 still to high for me. Really don't know what I'll do bout this situation. I'm already lookin forward to cooler months, for my truck runs great in that kinda temperature. Sounds crazy I know:o

id take it to ford (or a mechanic) tell them what its doin, ask them whats wrong, if you take it to ford pay the 36.50 or what ever the diagnostic is, if they tell you whats wrong ask how much it will be to fix it, if thats to much take it to a mechainic and itll be alot cheaper
