so i have an 04 with the 5.4....at idel theres a kindo of clicking sorta knock...sounds like injectors but its pretty loud...whats really goin on?

 

Injectors normally tick fast, they do not knock (sic).

04 3 valve and newer + sounds like diesel (heavy knock (sic))+ only when warm at idle = normally, cam phaser

 

anyway to make it quietter....its pretty loud and i think its gotten louder since i got the truck....

 

I noticed your sig says 2003, but you say 04 in your OP. Is your truck the new body style?

 

yes its my bros.... 04 with the 3 valve...

 

It is a known issue with the 3 valve 5.3 on the newer body style. Heavy knocking at idle (like a diesel), after the motor is has warmed up, normally points to the cam phasers. That is usually an pretty expensive repair (@ 1200) if you are out of warranty.

It could aslo be something else, depending on the tune of your motor, past use, etc. Quinton will be the real expert on any other potential issues that could be causing the knocking.

Could you give a detailed explanation of when the knocking occurs (cold or hot warm, idle, full throttle, etc.)?

 

well it is chipped.....but like i said it sounds like it got louder....hmmm is this cam phaser like a cam positioning sensor?...
