Check Engine Light

I have a 2003 F-150, it has 146,800 miles on it. The other night i was at a stoplight, i tired to accelerate and it died on me. The dashboard said something about the oil but the oil doesn't need to be changed. This is the first time in the history of this truck, that the check engine light went on. Any suggestions on what may be the problem??? much obliged.

oil pressure possibly? if theres less than like 8psi of oil pressure i think they shut off.

go to autozone or advanced discount auto parts and have then read to see if your computer threw any codes

Possible IAC [idle air controller] problem. X2 on getting the scan.

I don't like that - "The dashboard said something about the oil"

Never take that lightly. First thing I would do is check the oil ASAP. Wether it was just changed or not.

THEN - Get the code numbers from the Zone.

Gee - when the engine stalls, you then have no oil pressure...... which also gives a low/no oil pressure indication along with a CEL simply due to the engine not running. It's supposed to do that.

The oil warning indicator isn't there to indicate oilchange status (or lack thereof), it indicates minimum pressure (4-6 psi).

The IAC has nothing to do when the engine is accelerating so it is not the issue.

I'd start by looking at the simple stuff: Fuel level, Fuel filter, clean MAF sensor, then get a better idea of what is working or not.

Doe! - For some reason , I put the oil light on before it died. Why would you post those lights on -KOEO - Oh well ~ Sure , she's lit up like a Christmas tree in that situation.

Good Catch Steve

Why don't you scan it instead of wasting time taking guesses.

1. It's already reported as fixed.

2. Stalling seldom sets any useful fault codes.
