Sluggish when hot...

Now my truck is a DD and it has no problem on short trips 30 mins or so. Lately here in Texas it has been at least 97 degrees every day. It seems like after 30 mins of driving that the truck starts doing weird things. The Trans does not shift as easy and it seems like I have to give it more gas to go anywhere.

When it does this I have checked to make sure the fan is on and it is. The water temp gauge stays right where it normally does.

Any thoughts on this matter?

i have noticed that with my truck... i heard it has to do with the intake temperatures.. when the temperatures get hot, the Intake air temperature sensor tells the computer and it runs like crap.... something to do with colder air being more dense then hot air or something

engine pulls timing which takes away HP from the engine and heat to keep it from overheating.

Thanks for that, i guess i will try to find a way to get a colder intake...I recall seeing some dragsters having almost a cooler with ice around the intake.

I might just have to build a box around the intake.

Im from Texas also and know exactly what your talking about. Using a ScanGuage II I can monitor the intake temperature and let me say it gets very HOT in rush hour traffic. Sometimes the motor us sucking in air that is over 130 degrees. The hot air is not near as dense and the motor starts to suffer.

My '01 5.4 also does this but it never used to do it, so i dont think its a problem with hot air, but only happens when it hot out..... Im going to try and replace the fan clutch to see if that works. Does any of your guys' trucks make a loud intake sound when you gas it and go up to about 3k rpm before it shifts?
