Question Is there such a thing as to much power?

I have a 1999 5.4L Lariat F-150. I have a Flowmaster exhaust system, a set of Pacesetter shorty headers, an S&B cold air intake, a throttle body spacer, Granatelli spark plug wires, E3 spark plugs, and a Hypertech Max Energy Programmer. My truck runs pretty well, I beat the 5.3L chevy trucks I once dreamt of beating, the Dodge cummins and I can almost beat the legendary Dodge 5.7L hemi pickup. My question is how much more power can I add before I begin to hurt my transmission? And if there is a set number for the 99' F-150, how much HP am I generating now, after the aftermarket upgrades? * Stock for my truck is 250hp and 330 lb/ft torque*

If it was 250 stock,,,your probably making about 270 to 275 HP now.
If you say you can outrun all the other vehicles then your racing and working the trany more then it was built for now.

i throw out the shorties and add longtubes (i cant bitch at you too much for that though), just throw out the throttle body spacer (unless you want a doorstop or paper weight), and get some real tunes for the truck. this will help you a lot.

oh, and get a shift kit.

"Legendary Dodge 5.7L hemi pickup"

A Dodge Cummins with just one mod - programmer - will beat your truck with any bolt-on short of forced induction.

But I am also curious how you put plug wires on a COP engine?

When I ordered the COP wires, they werent full length wires, they were aout 2 1/2 inches long, and blue, stubby little guys. I called granatelli and they said they would provide the same performance gain, just fit for my truck.

The shift kit, I thought that when my programmer played with the tranny firmness etc that would have been sufficient, would a plug in shift kit not interfere or overdo?

imo a tuner firming up a trannys shift is the wrong way to do it. i'd rather do a shift kit than allow a "tune" to modify parameters. i dont think im the only one that feels this way.

i say you loose the SLOWMASTER and get a maggy muffler that is for Performace Not chamberd for SOUND. Loose the shortys adn get some pacesetter Quick trip Long tube headers and you will prob pick up another 35HP and 30 Ft lbs of TQ. I hang with the 5.7 Hemi's they win by about half a truck but were even all the way to 60-70 when ever we stop...There is no such thing as "Tooo much power" You can never have enogh....Just ask Built54
