50 shot on stock 4.6?
50 shot on stock 4.6?
I just got this 01 F-150 with the 4.6 in it. I know everything about the thing. My grandfather has had it since it was knew so it's not new to me but now it was passed down to me. I drive a turbocharged Acura RSX as a daily driver. Im using the truck to haul my Raptor 350 or whever my cars down to do more work on it. Im wanting to play around with it and throw maybe a 50 shot on it. I've already got an old 10lbs nitrous bottle and line laying around and have a buddy willing to see me an NX solenoid for $25 bucks. Ford stuff is kinda new to me so my question to you guys is will the stock 4.6L with 109xxx miles on it hold a dry 50 shot with no decrease in timing or decrease in timing? Of course I would still get colder plugs. I don't have the extra money to build a wet kit for it at the time but I would like to play around with a dry 50 shot IF it's safe. The motor runs great and it's never had any problems. And I'd have a short ram on it before I added the spray. If they usually run to lean with even a 50 shot and it's not safe, what's a pretty easy way to up the fuel pressure to make it safer? I really don't want to blow this thing up lol.
Nobody yet? I searched but I couldn't find exactly what Im looking for. I guess I just need to hook it up and dyno it. Im friends with the dyno owner in town so he'll cut me a deal and then if it's to lean I'll pull the vacuum line off of the regulator and see how much that helps. But Im just wondering how well it takes nitrous on a stock 4.6L. I don't know THAT much about these engines. Seems to be a great truck. I've just always been into Hondas/Acuras...but not ricey ones with bee sounding exhaust and neons and body kits and big wheels and ****. Not my thing. Anyway, back to the topic.
a 4.6 should hold a 50 shot, Im not a fan of dry kits but thats just preference, I know a few stangs with them, youll be spraying before the maf so the computer will comp for the fuel and timing.
I would only ask why you want to spray a motor with 110K on the clock. If its running good I wouldnt risk it.

My truck originaly had the 4.6 in it and I ran hundreds of bottles through that poor motor. I had a wet kit and ran a 75 shot on it for about two weeks then put the 100 jets in and ran that for over a year without having it tuned. I did have a 255 fuel pump, BBK regulator, and a fuel pressure gauge to keep an eye on it. I put juice on the truck around 100k miles and it ate itself at 130k. Only the last 10k were with a dyno tune and it ran so much better with a good tune. I think I was really lucky running it for so long with no tune and going through 2 10lb bottles a weekend beating on it
I would definately turn the rollers once after you put the juice to it just to see where it is at just to be safe

thanks for the replies. I think I should be able to run a 50 shot with no problems at all then. And I will throw it on the dyno before I even spray it once to make sure it doesn't go to lean. So the computer will automatically adjust the fuel if I spray it before the MAF? And the reason I want to spray it is really just because when I have something with an engine on it, I have to play with it like that lol. But Im not going over a 50 shot. Just want it to be funner and hell, when Im hauling something one day and I get in a tough spot, it might help me out real fast. And I think that motor has so much carbon build up in it that the first couple of sprays will probably help clean it out. Should I do anything with the fuel pressure with only a 50 shot?

Thanks guys and yea I'll throw it on the dyno before I spray it the first time to make sure it doesn't go lean on me. Im cool with the dyno guy so I'll get a deal for a couple pulls. Just curious, what do these motors usually put down to the ground from the factory? And should I do a 75 shot? Or is that starting to push it for no tuning on a stock 4.6L?
