Power Steering Pump Installation
Power Steering Pump Installation
I Have A 2000 F150 5.4l. My Power Steering Pump Has Been Whining For Quite Some Time So I Bought A New One. I Need Some Advice On Pulling Out The Old One And Installing The New One. Let Me Know What Y'all Think.
a new pump doesn't usually come with a pulley, so you'll need a puller to remove the old pulley and an installer to press the pulley on the new pump.
The pressure line should have a white teflon seal on it, which will be damaged on removal. Make sure you have a new one.
When you refill the system, it helps to put some vacuum on the reservoir when you think you have a good level. Then run the engine and cycle the steering. The vacuum will help remove air bubbles from the fluid and keep the pump from whining. Mind you, it will whine as long as there is vacuum on the reservoir, that is normal.
