Now I'm not trying to bash Ford, because thats all that sits in my driveway...literally. Has anyone else noticed how Ford's motors are significantly weaker than Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, etc.? If you look at numbers, they match up somewhat, but having ridden in all of these other trucks now, I feel like us Ford owners are missing out on some power, anyone else feel this way?
Anyone know if Ford has a plan to make their powerplants a little stronger?

You have to compare apple to apples. I have sittin in my drive way a 99 f150 and a dodge 1500 both extended cab 4x4's. The ford is a better all around truck. Has more torque rides better is more solid. I've driven chevys as well and again the chevys are not better then my Ford. The Dodge has things about it that are nicer is cruses on the freeway better and the chevys get better gas milage then either for or dodge. as far as lasting longer I dont think they do. My E-350 van has 203k on it and all i've every dont to it is normal repairs and maintenance..
i mean come on a 5.7 in a 1/2 ton Vs a 4.6 of corse there gonna have more power. But its just how some stuff is made on how well it stays togther with all that power. I know what your saying my buddy has a 4.7L in his dodge 1500 and his book says 230HP/ 210Ftlbs. When my 4.6L says 210HP 190Ft lbs. How does that .1L give it that much more power??

I feel the same, my neighbor and I both own 06 F150's with the 5.4, his stock mine modded with: 2.5" true duals with X pipe, TB Spacer, K&N Cold Air intake, MSD Coil Packs, and Edge Programmer. Obviously I just destroy him when we are side by side and my economy is about fairly good 700km.tank cty/hwy mix.
My neighbor recently was in an accident which meant he needed a rental truck. First he was given a Toyota Tundra and WOW made my modded truck seem slow and gutless. he then returned it due to a booking issue or something and received a Ram with the hemi and WOW that one even made the tundra seem gutless even with the higher horsepowr rating going to the tundra, the dodge then was returned during his vacation, upon return he was given a Chevy Silverado 5.3. and I must say, that I wish I didn't buy a ford after trying this thing out, we put them side by side on the 4 lane highway just outta town and I was embarassed again with all my modifications! We also beleive that it out performs all the rest aswell even with the lowest hp rating next to the ford.. Whats going on!!?!? how come the 5.4 doesn't perform??

My dad and my older brother both have 06 f150's with the 5.4, leveling kit, and 35's. I HAVE noticed that in 4-Low, when you let that torque grunt, that seems like a place where the ford might show out a little bit compared to the others. Thats just what I have noticed. But in a straight line, I had a 1992 Mazda 4 Cyl. 5spd that would smoke my brothers truck to about 70 haha.
Actually, no, I haven't.
My 4.6 had 125K on it when I sold it... Still running great today, and my buddy beats the hell out of it. I towed a ton of crap with that truck too (all the way to the redline) and thought it did great. Dad's (and now my brother's) Ranger has 196K miles on it. Still going great. It towed its first load ever (my boat) last week. Did pretty good for a 4 cylinder 5 speed. My 7.3 is at 123.6K miles. Still going great. We've owned a bit of everything. Had a Buick with the 5.7 LT1. Fast as hell, but the motor sucked. Was constantly breaking or leaking something. Sold it with 60K on it. Momma's Jeep is a bit better than the Buick with 141K on it, but you can tell that it is getting older. And in case you're wondering, I've driven every new truck out there (Tundras, Chevys, Dodges, Titans, & Fords). Guess which one I'd want in my driveway?
New Chevys (2008 2500 6.0) and Dodges (2005 Hemi) are lacking a ton of power down low. Seemed like my 4.6 could out pull it down low. Toyoter has good power everywhere, but damn its ugly. Titan has alright power.

Ya the commericals say Build ford tough for a reason. If you want a drag truck Get a lightning. a Roush Stage 3 F-150. or somthing like that. My ford has gone threw hell and a half with me driving and it has never once given me any trouble doing somthing i ask it to do...even if that is running on 6 cyl's outta 8 after mudding.
I don't know... maybe I just have a bad taste in my mouth. I do not agree with the statement that our fords have all this low end tourque, I do not beleive it's true, I don't think the 5.4 really puts out until 4000+ rpm but again just opinion from driving my truck everyday. It does ride well, and it does look good though, and the price was right. But I think I sadly have to say that both myself and my neighbor will most likely be picking up new GMC sierra's next spring. Unless I can get some suggestions on how to improve my performance. I also don't expect it to be a drag racing truck, but I do also like to step on it and not feel like I am towing a 1500lbs trailer...
Low end torque is being able to cruise up a hill at a SLOWER speed and at a lower rpm. I am amazed at some of the grades I have cruised up without having to down shift. You aren't going to go fast but you also aren't going to have to rev your engine up.
My friends titan is much faster than my truck but every single time you hit a hill it has to drop down a gear. Of course it goes faster etc....
Lots of people like that high rpm feeling, being able to rush up a hill etc....
Low end torque gets very little respect.
