Unhappy Call me stupid, but it has to be done

I have 64k miles on my 2006 F150 5.4L. I either A)have a tranny shudder or B) my COPS need changed and so do my plugs.

I have already had my tranny reversed flushed. Not much help. Since the past year, it has slowly gotten worse. But the problem only pops up in the 45-55mph range. Seems to be the dreaded low-fire miss.

So hopefully they will not eat me alive tomorrow at the stealership. I leave for the beach on Saturday so I figured do it now, or wait two months and add more carbon. Hopefully all will be well as they gave me a generic quote of $1400 if the heads had to be pulled.

So with the possible updating of COPS/plugs I am excited to see how it will run. As soon as I get my 87 octane out of the tank as I cross the Appalachian mountains, I will pull over in Virginia and fill up with 93 octane and put my Edge on Level 3 for some great cruising till Myrtle Beach.

You will only be called stupid if you buy a toyota.

Let us know if the plugs and cop's fixed it.

(that is if they would replace all of them) LOL

The plugs in my '06 came out without breaking so hopefully yours do to! Best of luck!

Well the dealership couldn't fit me in, so I went to my local mechanic that I trust. They just did an 04' 2v F150 and didn't break any plugs so that is a plus.

Unfortunately they can't do the job until tomorrow. And they can't get any COPS in until next week. But I am having them complete an Ohm test on the coils to let me know if any are out of spec. At least I could drive to the parts department at my local Ford dealership and pick up some.

Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight because this has me worried.

It is great that they didn't break any in the 5.4 2v engine, because the 2v doesn't have the breakage issues.

How tru****l are you now of them?

Why would you take it to the dealership for a plug and coil change?.... any local garage can do it for a fraction of the cost. Just make sure they use Motorcraft plugs. You don't want to know what they will charge you for each coil.

With a 2v 5.4L, you have to worry about keeping the plugs in not, not about getting them out.

I wouldn't call you stupid for buying / driving a Toyota. They make very good cars, trucks, and SUVs.

Dammit !! Passenger side came out easy for them after following the TSB. He completed one side after I dropped it off yesterday. Today on the drivers side it was a different story. First plug came out easy, the rest were bitches. 3 broke plugs. 2 sleeves left down in there and the last has sleeve/porcelan left. He worked it for over 3 hours today since they were being rough and still no luck.

But they are bringing in a 27yr vet mechanic who is off on surgery leave to get his advice and guidance. Hopefully, they can get the rotunda tool and not have to pull the heads. But it looks like I am not taking this thing on vacation and will be using a rental vehicle. Damn this is gonna hurt my CC bill bigtime.

My luck has always been horrible with vehicles. Most ppl get off easy, but that is never my case.
