Plugs change

This is my first post here.Read a lot about the plugs change and did mine today.
I have a 2004 ,5.4l with 94000 miles.I knew from the first crank on the plug that it ain't going to be easy.
So,what I did is put an impact wrench to get the plugs "started" for about one full turn and than proceeded with the ratchets.Had it all done in 1.5 hrs....without soaking...maybe I was lucky...lol

No BS bro...no reason for it...
If you remove aside the PCM than you should have plenty of room.I used about 2 foot extension with the swivels and u joint on drivers side plug.Used caution when guiding the extension to prevent kinks and side pressure...

An impact wrench might be better do to the initial shock wave causing the carbon to break free of it's bond.

It's an issue with *ALL* 5.4 3V engines, which means ALL 5.4's from 2004 to present. They have JUST redesigned the heads to fix this, I have no idea whether any of the new motors are out there yet.

any of you that did some wrenching will know that at times applying brutal force to a bolt will brake it off,but the impact will do the job.I used the impact with gently pushing the trigger and it worked! Your chances of screwing it up are higher with just the ratchet IMHO.....anyway I'm happy and the anoying ticking is gone too....

You should write a letter to FoMoCo, & tell them your story! Maybe you will start a new TSB!................

Thats what i've always been thinking. If you just use a impact wrench it might break the carbon free before the plug has a chance to break.

Theres no shock when using a rat-chit so the plug has so much stress it just breaks apart. But with the impact it happens so quickly the plug might come free before it breaks

Holy Crap, Just when I thought I've heard it all with the plug removals, this tops it all. Everything FMC has been pushing to help get the plugs out in one piece has brought us back full circle, it seems, to using a high force impact wrench to get the initial cracking of the plug seats. I'm still not convinced that the percentages will be high should more people try this but hey, what the hell, I say. At least people are trying new ways. Wildbadbill, I like to by you a beer man!!!!!!LOL. If you honest with this, then this Buds for you!!!!!
