help bad engine

I just bought a 97 f150 xlt with a bad 4.6 engine. Mileage is 86,000 so it is hard for me to image what could be wrong with a motor this young.

Can I put in any 4.6 engine if I have the electronics and such? or is it best to buy a 97/98 4.6 truck (windsor engine) and replace? What should I expect to pay for a good used 4.6 engine? Jim

Welcome to the BEST Ford truck forum on the net.

What's wrong with your motor?? 86,000 ? - It should have close to another 200,000 left on it if it was taken care of.

Well, post what's up with it. You have a few options as far as what to replace with, first - why do you need to replace ? What's wrong with the old one? Did you compression test it?

Do you have an automatic 4r70w trans ?

The best used parts finder (specially Engines and Tanny's) I've used and seen is @ http://car-part.com/ - Type in you address and that site locates what you need closest to home first, then expands further by request.
