Another spark plug question.

I've been reading alot about the problems with the HT spark plugs and decided to put in new plugs since I don't know when the last time the plugs were changed. The truck is an '05 with 85000 m. When I removed the first plug it came out real easy. It was an Autolite platinum HT and it had traces of antisieze compound on it. Am I safe to assume that these are not original? Wouldn't the plugs be Motorcraft if they were original? The plugs look to be in pretty good shape - so should I continue to replace them or just save my money and wait for the new "one piece plug". Can anyone tell me what the best plug for this truck is right now. I have heard a few people complain about the Autolites. The truck runs pretty good right now.

those are not the originals and if you want to put new ones in its only $18 but that not nessesary spending because those have been replaced and are in good shape.... i have also heard motorcraft is better even there but they are made by the same people, i myself have autolites and have no problems what so ever

All original plugs were Motorcraft. Your Autolites are made by the same manufacturer, but not necessarily to the same specs as the Motorcraft. If it were mine, I think I would remove the plugs, recoat the shank with nickle anti sieze and put them back in. They have obviously been changed and if they are performing well, why change? I'm not ready to jump on the Champions yet. I would rather see how well they perform after a few thousand miles. I had my plugs replaced at 65,000 without a problem. i went back with Motorcraft.

The Autolites for the 3V seem to work well. It's the Autolites for the 2V that suck.

I'm not ready to Hop on the Champions just yet either, need more feedback & long term results! At 19,000mi I'm not due for a plug change just yet, I'm gonna go to 50,000mi to change them out. By that time there should be more feedback on the Champions!..............

Why are the Sutolites so bad for the 2V? I am 110000 miles on mine and am debating putting them in or have a shop put them in. I am versed in spark plugs but the whole issue with them blowing out scares the #$!#% out of me. I just do not want to have any problems. Can anyone give me some tips? I saw the Nickel antiseize...but anything other than that? I have been trying to look around on here to find some tips but not running into too much. Thanks a lot.

I just checked out the Mustang forums and there are alot of people replacing their plugs as well - all worried about the worst. They are using the Champion #7989 plug. Some have posted that the engine runs as good or better with these.

The Ford dealerships are usually pretty good about the 2 valve plugs - Good Tech's @ Ford. But I would trust myself more - Just make sure you don't put more than 16 foot pounds (1/4-1/2 turn) when tightening them down. Over torquing these plugs is easy to do and can cause major problems in the future, so be careful there.

You'll be alright doing it on your own , not tat big of deal once you get going on it - it's a little time consuming the first time around, but that's about it.

DON'T use Autolites - They just don't work well in most 2 valves. Autolites usually are ok in other makes , not in these engines though.

Go with the newer Motorcraft "fine wires" and you can't go wrong on a stock engine.
