Fram Orange Filter

Why does everybody get *** bent because the Fram filters use paper end caps. Use some common sense, why bother with steel caps when the weak portion of the filter is the media. The paper end caps more closely match the burst strength of the filter media.

Fram has less filter area than most filters which means 2 things
the filter holds less dirt than a filter with more area
there is less pressure drop across the filter -a good thing

I don't use the orange frem because it does not have the silicone antidrain back valve and I can buy the MC for the same price.

There for ~ more dirt is circulating thru your motor .. - Doh!!

I thinks you just like Orange or something

BTW - that restriction is needed to generate good pressure, by design.

there is not more dirt circulating! filter holds less dirt so you need to change it more often!

the filter restriction is a neccesary evil not a design criteria- where did you go to school GM?

bottom line.. fram oil filters are junk. there was a guy that had a link to a site where they tested like 20 different filters in detail. find that and youll see.

A certain amount of restriction helps the pump build pressure. Filter restriction is formulated in - mathematically.

And yes - I went to school for GM and Ford @ the Operating Engineers center Howell MI. It was a requirement to work @ GM Proving Grounds (Milford) and Ford DPG Engineering and development center (Dearborn).

You ever see what Fram media will do when it gets old - it goes limp - losses it's structural integrity - it just lays down lol. Have you seen where they cut the filters open after pro-longed use ?

Like I said many times - You can rebel against the manufacturers recommended maintenance replacement parts if you like - It's your truck. Remember, they are trying to help you and they do want there trucks to last. Fighting that isn't really very smart IMO. I'm not bias in any way. I go with what's best for my vehicle, what I've learned in these forums and past experiences.

A Fram may do you just fine - then again it may not depending how hard the engine is worked and when you change out your crank case fluid.

I don't know if it was because the filter was left on entirely too long or what the whole story was, but I have personally seen a Fram filter when the paper/cardboard filter element end plates started to degrade and break down. Guess where all that trash went??

I also know it's a hard pitch to make (and I have nothing against them) but MC filters are not the end-all be-all of oil filters either. They're popular cause they work and they're the best bang for the buck. There's better quality constructed filters than MC out there...Mobil 1 and Amsoil EaO's immediately come to mind.

Sure - but compare the prices. The MC filter is in the same price class as orange Fram. The MC filter is made by Purolator if I'm not mistaken.

I like K&N full flow oil filters. But for 15 bucks a pop... eh... not worth it.

Yea, you don't really even need anything like that unless your motors built and it's recommended - Maybe if your racing offroad and running a dry sump system.

I agree 100% - But you know your filters, where others obviously don't and it shows

Yes...use these for "original" equipment performance!! For superior performance that exceeds original equipment use.....
