Opposing piston engines are nothing new. Fairbanks Morris did it a long long time ago.

Yea , The older BMW's had them in there cycles. What's new is putting the crankshafts at the other end and having the pistons play chicken.

That's really what there after here as far as increasing efficiency. I hope this gets accomplished - If so , anything below 500 hp would be a thing of the past.

Or they'll make them extremely small, still make 300hp and get 80mpg.
