rough idle, no power

my wife's car has about 112k on it, and a buddy of mine was talking about Restore (the oil additive). i figured it couldn't hurt so i dumped some in my wife's car, and thought what the hell, why not my truck. it has about 80k on it, and again, figured it couldn't hurt. almost immediately the "check engine" light came on and it had a rough idle. also, it had no power, and when i was slowing down at a stop sign, the rpm's starting bouncing around. once the engine's warm, it doesn't do it as bad/much. i can't imagine an oil additive would have an effect like this. anyone else have any similar experiences, or could it be something with the fuel and it's just a coincidence that i added that crap? thanks.

I used to use Restore every time I felt my old V6 lose power. It really worked with no problems at all. It didn't look as if it caused any problems on tear down. It must have been coincidence your problem occured. Now I didn't have a computer controlled car either. All I can think of it may have gotten on a cam sensor and caused it to give an erronious signal. It does deposit itself as a build up in places.

it's an '02 grand prix gt sedan. great car, drove it to work and back today, 110 miles, and no problems. i actually think it's running better. she drove the truck to work and said the engine light is still on but she didn't notice anything wrong with the performance or idle...who knows. she filled up on thursday, so it could be coincidence. there was just under 3/4 tank when i dumped it in, so i would think that if it was fuel/emissions it would have occured earlier. my buddy has a code reader, so i'll plug that in tomorrow night and see what it says. thanks for the reply's guys!

plugged in a code reader tonight, and it was the cam sensor. can't remember the exact words, but something to do with the timing. i cleared the code and got the light off, so we'll see what happens. the wife says it's ran fine the last couple of days. once again, thanks for the reply's/advice.
