Just guessing here - 4400 on the 4.9 and 5000 on the 5.0.

The 4.9 has a HP peak at 34-3500 and the E4OD shifts at 3800 at WOT. With a manual tranny your limits should be similar. Rev it past 4000 and all you're making is noise. That has absolutely nothing to do with redline. Redline is where things start coming apart; that's somewhere north of 5500.

For the 5.0, IIRC the HP peak is somewhere around 45-4600. At any rate, no point in revving it much past 50-5200.

I knew a guy from texas with a 82 4.9 with 450,000 miles on it. only changed oil once a year and he says he could rev to 6000.

Autozone house brand oil!

And if it's stock he's a fool. The engine is making virtually no power at those elevated revs and the piston speed is approaching 4000 FPM, a number at which things can come apart in a big way. Shift a 300 at 3800 like Ford intended and both you and it will be happier

Stock valve trains float much past 5000. Need solid camshaft to go higher. The rest of the motor should be built for it as well.

That would be a safe assumption, with a stock engine.
