My F150 was built 10/96 and sold as a 97. The exhaust exit on the right side, just forward of the rear tire. I was told by the seller only 97 had the side exit exhaust. The mechanic said he never seen a side exhaust and Ford never got back to me.

Anyone else has a side exhaust? Thanks

 

The 97 model did come with the exhaust in front of tire. They had a problem with the heat discoloring the wheel and issued a TSB about it. Most trucks had the tail pipe changed to behind the wheel at the dealer. TSB number 97-26-13.

 

most of the time the 97 had this exit on the long beds so ford could say money on makeing it jump the axle. but ive seen some short beds with this exit to. but mostly long beds.

 

Yeah mine had it, I quickly got rid of that because my wheel was turning a greenish tint.

 

All the 97 Model year trucks had it. They changed it at some point for the 98 model years as some people complained of corrosion issues on the aluminum wheels. I never have had any issue like that at all and the truck is 12 years old. I thought some early build 98 also had but it but some say it was ONLY 1997 Model.

My 98 was behind the tire - build date 7/98 I believe.

 

I picked this truck up recently. All the aluminum wheels look the same, crappy!! But no greenish or oxidation look from exhaust.

Thanks for the info all. I'll be changing the exhaust in a few months. I was wondering why the plastic center cap was green.

 

My dad traded his 97 Lariat in December and it had the BEFORE rear tire exit. Had the green center cap and wheel was oxidizing. Center cap was broke on last tire rotation. Also the paint always had some nasty stuff on it from the exhaust.

 

Oh I thought it meant Look At What a Loser I am.
