Need a little Help.
2002 F150 5.4 With 103,000
Service Eng Light came on last week on the way to the races. Then it started blinking, by the time that I got the truck to the shop it was missing and running like Sh_T. The shop that I have used for the last 10 years is under new management, I don’t know if what they are charging me is a fair price. Profit is not a bad word but $822 to change plugs and a couple of sensor seems to be a little step. DBL PLATNINUM PLUGS 8.90 x 8 PLUS TAX REPLACE PLUGS 2.8 HRS = 238.00 ( Is it that hard to change the plugs myself)?? AIR FLOW SENSOR 190.05 PLUS TAX REPLACE AIR FLOW SENSOR .50 HRS = 42.50 SMOG CHECK 40.22 INCL CERT & TRANSFER FEE OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT 41.35 PLUS TAX The Sending unit is leaking. Would this be a good time to put in an oil pressure gauge?? REPLACE SENDING UNIT .60 = 51.00 After Parts and Labor total would be $822.73 :help::confused: |
parts
well if you figure up the cost of the parts at either advance or autozone or oriely's and the average rate mechanics charge from 60-80 bucks an hour labor its gonna be priced bout right... im no mechanic but i change my parts that i can change out... it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out to do the easy stuff yourself but the cop"s arent hard till you get to the # 6 or 7 the one under the pressure regulator is a sob but it can be done.. your paying what you should for the parts.... but you could have saved some cash doing the simple stuff yourself a lil fast orange and warm water youll clean up afterwards....:lol:

all the prices seem legit. you could do the plugs and MAF on your own and save yourself 300, not sure how hard the sending unit would be though. good luck:beers:

You just make me wonder how much money have I save by doing all that stuff by myself! parts price seem also right for me, the issue is the labor..:smoke:
|
im just glad i work at advance auto parts while i go to college.... that 20% discount i get comes in handy :rocker:

Thats about what I paid the Ford dealer to do my van a couple years ago. You could buy the E-bay coils and get the motorcraft plugs can of MAF cleaner total less then $200 to do it yourself.

Parts prices you are being quoted are full retail. They all can be had considerably cheaper, especially the oil pressure sender. At those prices, you should be getting OEM Motorcraft, if they are using aftermarket you are being ripped off.
