I have a 05 f 150 s cab 5.4 my son drove it sunday and filled it up with ethanol fuel.My truck does not have the flex fuel engine.he drove straight home from the gas station which is about 2 miles from the house is this engine going to run it or do I need to dump the fuel. What is the difference in these engines anyway and can you convert a regular 5.4 3v to a flex engine and how much would it cost thanks
If I were you, I'd get it pumped out ASAP!!! Read below...........
There is only one major additional part that is included on an FFV - the fuel sensor that detects the ethanol/gasoline ratio. A number of other parts on the FFV's fuel delivery system are modified so that they are ethanol compatible. The fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel injectors, computer system, anti-siphon device and dashboard gauges have been modified slightly. Alcohols are corrosive. Therefore, any part that comes in contact with the fuel has been upgraded to be tolerant to alcohol. Normally, these parts include a stainless steel fuel tank and Teflon-lined fuel hoses.

A proper conversion is probably a couple grand. I'd get that stuff out of there, if you don't, you are going to throw a CEL pretty soon, the non-FFV sensors and ECU calibrations can't correct for more than about 35 to 40 % ethanol at best.
If he simply put in standard "ethanol added" fuel, that's fine, that's only 10% and more and more places these days only have that. However, if he put in E85, that's a problem.

Thanks it was e85 he had adout half a tank and about 2 miles from the house I guess the extra gas cut the percentage of ethanol . Its needs a new fuel filter anyway guess I will chage it while I am at it .
I don't think premium is necessary - E85 is about 104 octane itself. I'd look for gas with NO ethanol, no matter what the octane is.
Half gas and half E85 is right around the CEL-triggering point. You might consider just driving it carefully and conservatively till you burn it down some.
