Ever play the telephone game? The one where one guy says something in your ear and you repeat it to the person next to you? Well your friend was at the very end. If you change the values that the IAT reports to the PCM you will trick it into adding more timing because it sees modified values for the air temps. With higher temps the PCM removes timing killing power. That is where the alleged power comes from. Now back to your friend. Some of the GMs have the IAT as part of the MAF sensor. Being as he was at the end of the telephone line it changed from adding a resistor to the IAT in the MAF to replacing the MAF. As long as the knock sensor can take care of any timing problems your friend's truck will be fine. If he were to run the ¼ before and after I would highly doubt that there would be and measurable differences. So my advice would be to let your friend be and carry a tow rope in your truck just in case he decides to do some other e-bay mod that is more harmful. Wish him good luck for me.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I knew it was a load of crap, just didn't know exactly WHY.
Hopefully he doesn't decide to go through with it. It's a nice truck, even for a Chebby.
