Quick Help: PCV one-way???

Can anyone answer me quickly if a PCV valve is supposed to be a one-way?

I purchased a new one because my brother took my old valve and said it was no good because he could blow through and suck through, claiming it's only supposed to go one way...

But when I received my new one from Tasca parts today, it does the same thing... making me wonder if either

1.) The new part is junk

2.) Thats the way the valve works...

If anyone could provide some insight that would be greatly appreciated.

BTW: It's a 2005 4.6l F-150

It should be one way, but it needs gravity. If you play it like a cuzzooI don't think it will work, but if you look up to the sky, it should.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just grabbed the new one to test if its gravity but it's still allowing air through both ways when I blow through it.

Anyone else with a little more insight into this?

Bleh.

I've searched and searched and found varying statements about PCV valves. Some say it works only one-way... others suggest air can go both ways.

If someone happens to, oh say, walk by there truck in the near time future, could you pop the hood and try to move air both ways through the valve? :o

OK, the PCV valve goes both ways but....... If you blow from the valve cover side it should flow freely. If you blow from the intake manifold side it should be restricted.

Yes, listen to JMC, PCV is Positive crankcase ventilation, so essentially the point of the PCV valve is to vent excess pressure and gases off the crankcase and attempt to reburn them for better fuel economy and more friendlier emissions. So it doesn't really matter if the pcv allows air back the "opposite way" one way or another, once enough pressure builds up, its gonna move and allow bursts of gases to go past. Just think your other side of the valve cover is a straight tube connecting to the intake...its essentially a pcv system too just without a valve.
