2001 4.6l Ticking...Should I worry?

Hey i have been reading up on many threads around here including the spark plug blow out threads, Sorry for making a new thread but didn't want my question to get lost in a 15 page one and decided to leave those for people that had the problem.

Ok, i have a 2001 4.6 with 67,000 miles on it and there is ticking mainly when it shift into O/D and runs at very low rpm's and at a light load its more noticeable like going up a hill (still in O/D at low speeds). You cannot hear anything on start up though, should i be worried???? Figured it was an exhaust leak or something but from reading all these blow out problems its getting me paranoid. From the threads it seems most problems were pre 2001 and mostly on the 5.4...

Right now i really don't have the spare cash to get it checked but if it blows definetly no money to replace it. Don't know how hard it is to check (maybe rate it) but i am mechanically inclined and my friend has replaced his 5.4L plugs so i can get him to look at it if its serious...Please chime in.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it yet. See if it gets worse or better then go from there. It might go a way. But if it gets worse it will be easier to pinpoint the problem.

most of the sparkplug issues are with the 5.4

Could it be engine ping? An easy way to check would be to run a couple tanks of premium fuel through. If it stops you know it is engine ping. Spark plugs would be noticable at start up. If you do a light brake stand or stall test you should hear a spark plug as well.

Good Luck

its a run around on here to find an answer for it. Exhaust leak, cam phaser, injectors, Lash adjuster(wtf ever that is, stupid OHC). Mines makes the noise something fierce, but I'ma just run it til it dies than go diesel... 6.6, an engine that actually lasts with no major issues. . .

The first thing I would do is make sure the spark plugs are tight. At 67k, if the plugs are original, it wouldn't hurt to change them anyway.

Are your spark plugs confirmed tight?

Take a small broomstick handle and put one end on each of your injectors and one end up to your ear.

Should instantly tell you where you click is coming from...
