Oil Filters There is a Difference

Just thought I would stir up a little opinionated controversy. I used to believe that a filter was a filter and if you changed them reguarly no problem.

When I change oil I always drain my filters for at least one day and then I punch holes in the bottom of the cannister and drain for another day or more before throwing away.

On Friday I changed oil in my 01 Cobra and my 93 Chrysler beater.

I drained both filters for the usual day. But on Saturday when I punched holes in the cannisters I noticed that the STP filter from the beater had almost no oil in it while the MC FL 820S had reatined a lot of oil. Both filters have an anti drain back valve. For my money I will pay the extra dollar and use the better filter. Its worth the peace of mind knowing that the MC filter gets oil to the moving parts fasted because it doesn't need to completely refill itself.

The MC costs more than the STP in your area?

That 820 is about $3 at Wal-Mart. STPs are about $6 at the Zone.

I don't blame ya. Don't scrimp.

Cool

HI!... I only run K&N racing oil filters. Expensive at $12(CAN) a filter but worth every penny.

Motorcraft or wix are the best..but as of late i prefer the Wix because it has about 8 threads holding it on vs the 3 or 4 threads in on the MC......

I've always just used Fram. No real reason, they just seem to sell them everywhere.

HI!... If you read any of the oil filter studies around on the internet, the FRAM filters are one of the worst filters to run. You couldn't pay me to run a FRAM oil filter.

oil filters

After reading all the post on here about oil filters It got me to thinking about in the morning when I start my truck up it ticks for about 10 to 15 seconds then it quiet down well I got a fram oil filter in it now so I thinking this is because all the oil drains out of the filter over night and it takes that long to fill up and get oil back over the valve train, so anyways I got me a MC to put in it now and I going to be changing it out this week then I'll see if it still ticks in the morning. I will let everyone know if it make a differents.

wally's world by me seems to be always sold out of 820s but pepboys sells them @ about $5.50 and Advance Auto sells them @ $3.84

I once was a flim FRAM Man, but some reading will educate a man, look at the bottom of a fram, it has eight BB size holes for flow and the filter material is close to the metal retainer with the BB holes, while with the 820s there are six wider elongated slots for oil flow, you choose .

Take a look at this study.......

http://www.knizefamily.net/minimopar...html#purolator

I would only run a Motorcraft Fl-820S or a Purolator L30001 in my truck. Mobil 1 and K&N are good filters too, but not worth the cost.
