ford engine guys>help??

first off i know that this is a f150 site but many people on here might be able to help me with my mustang engine...so the deal is, i have a 1970 mach1 mustang with a 351W..my dad and i finished the restoration on it and have put a edlebrock victor jr intake on it...the problem is that the heads are the stock 2 barrel and the intake and carb are 4 barrel....we cant get it to run with out smoking....its always rich...i want to put bigger heads on but im not sure what to go with..i have no idea about valve sizes and ports and all of that...any help would be great.....

thanks for the help....

Vic Jr heads would work great, but you'll need to check the valve cutouts in the pistons to make sure the 2.05 intake and 1.60 exhaust valve's will clear the pistons.

I'd rebuild the carb and check float level.

Double pumpers are great but a holley 600 with vaccum secondaries work really nice too.

Racingjake is on the right track but I perfered the mechanical over the vaccum secondary. I like to controll it. I do agree on staying away from the double pumper.
If you have a holley installed the float does like to stick. I had to adjust mine every few months due to the vibration. I had a Holley 600 wit 650 jets on a 2000CC Ford 4 Cylinder (god I miss those days LOL) but its great your working with your dad. That will outlast the car. Hope I helped.

Go get an Edelbrock carb. A 650 will do fine and is ez to calibrate. The air valve secondary will act almost like a double pumper if you tune it to the engine, cam, rear end and total vehicle weight. If you go double pump you gotta play with the squirters.
