Changing oil pressure sensor

I have a 93 f-150 with the 5.0l engine and have 135,000 miles. My oil pressure gauge goes back and forth as you drive from 0 to normal. It appears that I have a faulty oil pressure sensor.

I know the OP sensor is above and to the left of the oil filter and you have to remove the filter to get to the sensor but I cannot find a way to unscrew the old sensor.

Has anyone replaced the OP sensor on the 5.0l engine? I must be missing the obvious. Any suggestions?

Thanks

There is a special socket, however, a deep 1 1/16" socket will remove it. If after you replace it, it still does the same thing, you are losing oil pressure, most likely from a clogged oil pump pickup screen. Good luck.

BB,

Thanks for the advice about using the special socket.

i just changed my oil pressure switch bc i was having the same problem. a word of advice, if you can't get the old one off or new one on because of it's location, it will take less time and money to just take the oil filter adapter off and install the new switch then put it back on. if you do be prepared with radiator fluid. that $7 switch cost me $154. couldn't get a socket on my pressure switch bc of location and tightened it with a crescent wrench. to make a long story short the entire bottom of my oil filter adapter completely broke off and it had to be replaced.
