Intake manifold

Lost a bolt down under it....anyone have ANY tips/hints/pictures of removal? Estimated time to do it, etc? Jbrew sent me some pics of removal, but I'm looking for personal experience too. How much do the gaskets run for$ and is ford the only place to get them?

Thanks!

I lost sockets and allen wrenches over the years, dropped a bolt a while back. I found a good magnet and duct taped it to a very flixble stick, and started jamming it up in there, got a 3 allen's, my socket, and my intake elbow bolt.

It's not gonna hurt anything sitting in the valley of the engine. I'd probably just buy new bolts and leave it down there until the time came where I really had to remove the intake.

I was telling NYfordguy earlier I found what was left of a Bologna sandwich under my intake. I lost 1/4 snap on ratchet under their once. I think Quintin might remember when I found about 1/3 of a piston in my lower intake

Last time the motor blew , that lower intake never was cleaned out lol - I posted a pic of it on here when I found it - can't find that thread tho..

Thought I titled it "Look what I found in my intake" - But I can't find that damn thread..It's prolly to old of a thread.

Yeah I had a spare bolt that replaces where the other one was missing, just thought it would be nice to get back the bolt. Maybe I'll do some poking around with a magnet, NAPA boys said I could borrow one on a flexishaft tomorrow.

Heres what it looks like down under -

Heres one of the tools I use. When I run out of 7-8mm sockets , I can usually fish one or two out of there.

Didn't you say you might have dropped something in the intake as well? I have a drawing of where it goes inside.

If you dropped something down in the intake - Like a bolt , it will just ride around in the lower intake until you remove it.. Or hit a monster chunk hole, if it pops out of the lower that way , you don't want to know where it could end up

Thanks for the photo brew! I think I am safe, I don't do an awful lot of chunk holing, and....I've found something else out...what exactly is that lower intake gasket like? Can it "break" Looks like mine is "broken" in a spot.

The arrow is pointing to the gasket above your post. If that's leaking, you'll be running lean and most likely generate a code telling so, if leaking there.

A propane bottle with a section of hose connected and then shoved down in that area will tell you if it's leaking. The motor will deflect immediately @ idle once it snorts up a good whiff of that stuff.
