FordTech1 and Quintin........

On average, how long do you guys let the penetrant soak when doing a plug change on a 5.4L 3 valve????

I've done as little as 15 minutes and up to an hour......depends what else I'm working on usually.....I'll pull the cops off the one side, crack the plugs loose and fill them up, then do the other side....let them sit for a bit longer then go back to the first side.

If you are doing it yourself at home, any reason not to soak them overnight?

It depends on what mood I'm in and how confident I'm feeling.

I've pulled them out dry on a warm engine without breaking any, of course I don't advocate that by any means, I was just impatient and in a hurry on that particular one. Normally, I let them soak for at least ten minutes.
