4.6L Got enough Juice?

Hey, I gotta 97 F150 XLT Reg Cab 4.6L, I am wondering if it will be enough to turn 35-38"s in a mud hole. Or if it would with some upgrades.

YEah some good ole gears will turn those wheels for ya. Something like some 4.56s would be a good choice. If you really want the extra torque the super charger isnt a bad idea eighther!!

Assuming that you had the 255s as stock you are going from a 30 inch tire to a 35 inch. It is like re-gearing to a 3.05:1 gear with the 255s. A 38 inch tire will be like going to a 2.81:1 gear. With the 38s you would need a 4.56:1 gear just to bring the gear ratio back to a stock number equivalent. So even with the 4.56 gears you have not yet compensated for the extra weight of the larger tires.
Gears are a top priority. Once you have done the gears you are only barely back to stock so some engine mods will be required. You had better also look into upgrading the transmission. I would also at the very least put a girdle on the little 8.8 rear differential. The next thing to remember is the CV joints. They do not like to turn large tires. Specially when the wheels are sharply turned. They tend to come apart. I run 33s just for that reason.

Regards

i have a 4.6L im my truck and plan on running 38.5" tires very soon. my math says that i need at least a 4.60 gear to be the same as stock so im just going with 5.13 itll be more then enought to compensate for the extra weight and hight of the tires. and the rpms at 85mph will only be 300 higher then if i went with 4.88's

dont fear the gear!

I have a new 4six harness that I stripped COP harness out of - The guy thru it in the deal when I purchased those type 3 injectors - hell , $60 for new injectors and harness - I couldn't pass it up. That's all I used from it tho - lots of connectors left if you need some.

Left Coil Pack = Passenger side pack - BTW - I'm not with ALLData anymore, I'm surprised you didn't notice - But, I can get the info for yuh. 97 harness correct ? Did you look in my illustrations gallery ? You need better pics of the split ?
