Question strange exhaust noise?

First post here so go easy on me..

After installing a CAI and Edge programmer (running on level 2 currently) it seams my truck has developed some kind of strange exhaust noise or "drone" maybe? it has to be in over drive, run up to about 65-70 let off the gas then mildly accelerate and I get a loud noise out of the passenger cat right under passenger floor board. Once you get back over 70 mph or so it goes away or if you stay under 63mph or so you will never here it. I thought it might be a drive shaft vibration but if you click the overdrive button to off the noise also goes away? The truck has 48,000 on it so I thought a tranny filter and fluid change were in order. This did not help at all either?
As a last resort I hit the return to stock button on the programmer and re-installed the factory air intake. the noise got much quieter but is still noticeable to the every so picky wife . Still don't know what it is?
Would it help to cut the factory muffler out to get more flow in the exhaust?
(ya bet the wife would love that)
Any help would be greatly appreciated

04 f-150 supercrew 4x4
2.5" leveling kit
265/70/17 tires
AIR max CAI with 9" k&n cone filter
Edge Evolution programmer

due you think swapping out the factory muffler for a magnaflow would help it out at all? This noise drives me crazy on the high way where I generally drive 65-70. had to many speeding tickets in my life (over 12) to simply pick up the pace.. and I would rather die then run 60-65 on the interstate
there's go to be something to help this out??
or the 300 bucks I spent on the CAI is going to be a expensive pile of crap in the corner of the garage.

well every new f150 i've heard about with an intake makes that drone. my friend has an 05 with a cia, and its just like you describe. a magnaflow will only make more in cab noise.

I have a Volant CAI, Edge and Magnaflow SISO...same drone from the intake...
Magnaflow does sound better than stock though!

well crap.
Love this truck, HATE the drone noise!
I cant stop spending money on this baby. Looks like I will be shopping for exhaust.
I have to thank this site for all the information on replacing my spark plugs.
It was the scariest 3 hours of my life but all went well (thank god!)
thanks again for the info.

and I have to ask.. how does the CAI make a noise in the exhaust? is it simply because the engine is taking in and pushing out more air?

It may be something as simple as a cat heat shield or loose muffler baffles.

the intake isnt making the exhaust drone. its the intake its self making the drone.

I checked the heat shields. there fine.
also banged on the passenger side cat to see if I could hear anything loose in there. Seams to be rock solid? I have been tinkering with this for 2 months and gotten nowhere.
the most baffling part is that I only seem to get a noise out of the passenger cat and not the driver side one?

The drone is a common problem with the Edge and CAI. Switch back to the stock intake and the sound should disappear.

I only pounded on the bottom cat on the passenger side. the noise only seems to come from the passengers floor board. could not really access the upper cat. I have put the stock air intake back on but the annoyance is still there. its just a little quieter now. And it gets even quieter yet when I hit the return to stock button on the edge programmer.
so with the truck totally back to its stock form (except the 2.5" leveling kit) the noise still exist. its just a much lower tone.
as you can tell I like things to be just right!! this is really making me loose sleep. maybe a few beers will help with the sleeping..

CBR1000 huh? sweet! I sold my 2002 GSXR1000 to raise funds for this truck we are speaking of. do you thing I can get 9.95 in the quarter out of my truck. LOL
OK, back to the freaking noise. YES i have put the programmer back to stock and the noise is still there. just quieter. still not quite enough to just turn the radio up to over ride it.
